Areas of Specialization in Psychotherapy
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a scientifically proven form of therapy that teaches strategies to identify, challenge and replace thinking errors that contribute to distress, and behavioral techniques to change unhealthy coping behaviors to adaptive behaviors.
This form of therapy is effective with many different symptoms and conditions. I incorporate CBT in all modes of therapy including play, individual therapy, family therapy and parent sessions.
Play Therapy
This form of therapy is commonly used with children, as they use play to express their inner life. Through play children can safely explore and express unresolved thoughts and feelings. It's an effective way to connect and teach important adaptive behaviors.
Puppet play, therapy games, reading books and discussions are examples of some of the strategies I commonly use.
I mostly use a directive approach with CBT techniques such as skills training and modeling to empower kids to build their tool boxes of coping skills.
Parent Coaching
I provide support to parents with a range of needs such as understanding their child/children’s stage of development, establishing a routine and expectations in the home, and behavior management. As needed I also partner with parents to communicate their child/children's needs at school.
I am more than happy to reach out to schools, physicians and psychiatrists in order to coordinate treatment.
